Mr. Apfel is chief investment officer for the firm, a portfolio manager, and a member of the Board of Directors of Boston Trust. He is the lead manager for the Boston Trust and Walden Balanced and Core and Value equity strategies, and manages the Walden Asset Management Fund (WSBFX) and the Walden Equity Fund (WSEFX). Mr. Apfel is a member of the Portfolio Strategy and Corporate Governance Committees, and contributes to research and analysis in the consumer staples sector and the insurance industry.
Mr. Apfel is also the managing director of Walden Asset Management, in which capacity he oversees the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) research into the investment process, as well as Walden’s shareholder engagement initiatives.
Prior to joining the firm in 1989, Mr. Apfel was an investment executive at Kidder, Peabody & Co. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and the CFA Institute. He earned a BA from Binghamton University, MA from Georgetown University, and PhD from Brown University, and was a Fulbright Scholar.
